Strike Action - Feb 2023 - March 2023

26 January 2023

Dear Parents/Carers,

You may be aware from media coverage that the teaching union NEU have declared strike action. The strike is happening because of a national dispute between the unions and the government over teachers’ pay, and not because of any issues at our school.

These strikes are likely to happen both nationally and regionally on the following days:

National strike – Wednesday 01 February 2023

Regional strike for the south-east, south-west and London - Thursday 02 March 2023

National strikes – Wednesday 15 March 2023 and Thursday 16 March 2023.

This will mean that the usual running of our schools may be impacted on these days.

We are unlikely to be in a position to inform you of any definite impact on school provision until much closer to each individual strike day, or potentially even on the strike day itself.

However, having met with our staff union representative and with the information that I have been given, I’m sorry to inform you that The Coppice Spring Academy will be closed on Wednesday 01 February 2023. We are therefore asking you not to send your child into school on this day.

We have not taken this decision lightly. We remain committed to providing a safe and secure environment for our students, and feel that we would be unable to provide safe supervision with the staff we will have available.

We will be providing online learning for all students to access through their student accounts. This will be set by class teachers to ensure the work is appropriate for each student. Before the strike, we will make students aware of these arrangements and show them how to access the work.

I’m sorry that you will have to make alternative arrangements for your child at short notice, and that they will experience disruption to their education. I understand that this situation may be frustrating and ask that all members of our school community continue to treat each other with respect.

We are working closely with our staff union representatives to keep up to date with the situation, and I will inform you as soon as possible if arrangements change further.

If you have any questions, please contact the school reception desk on 01256 336601

Yours faithfully
